Cori’s Book Report: Chances (aka Gangsta Porn) by Jackie Collins

Ok, just to address the hung elephant in the room: YOWZAH!!! Thank goodness most of the characters finally got too old to get it up ‘cause I was getting worn out just READING about their sexcapades! Gino the Ram inDEED!

Now that that’s out of the way….

I thought this was a pretty good read (clearly she’s no Chaucer, thank goodness!)! I got involved in the characters and how all their lives intertwined and was even surprised by a few twists - I, like Lucky, didn’t have a clue that Enzio was the scumbucket that he turned out to be (you GO girl! Sure showed HIM you weren’t a “dumb pu$$y, didn’t you?!). And I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve already reserved a copy of both Lucky - so I can see what she’s up to during her later years - AND The World Is Full Of Married Men (which is supposed to be even more sexalicious…gotta get my kicks somehow!!).

One thing that I did find frustrating, though…with all those “wop” names I found myself stopping to remember which thug was which (I thought Enzio was the cool dude who ran the restaurant with his wife?) and her descriptions I thought were inconsistent (I thought Imogene was supposed to be this big strapping woman but then at the very end she writes that Warris “took with him 42” Imogene” which makes her a midget, unless he’s talking about her girth?? Silly thing to get stuck on, I know…)

Anyway, drumroll please for Cori’s Quotes:
(Gino, right after Maria has Lucky)
“Goddamn it! I’m a father!” He whacked the nurse on the behind. “Hey, you want a cigar?”

(This isn’t a quote, really, just what I think was the funniest scene in the whole book, from when Gino & Olympia’s dad found the girls at the villa)
“Dimitri flung open the double doors of the main bedroom, and there was Olympia exposed for all to see, naked, her rounded ass up in the air as she diligently bent down between Warris’s spread legs and gave him one of the best blow jobs he had ever experienced. There was a nasty silence, broken only by the slurping sounds Olympia made with her mouth. Dimitri did not hesitate. He moved forward and whacked her ass with all his might. It was unfortunate that Warris had just begun to come, for as Olympia lept up…Warris shot his sperm in a perfect arc all over Dimitri’s arm.” LOL & ROTFL!!!!

And I don’t know if y’all’s copies had the “sneak peek” from Lovers & Gamblers, but I find it interesting how she slips characters from some of her books into others…apparently Al King is one of the central figures in that book and I think it was Lucky who listened to his album at one point. It’s like Drive Shaft!! Hahaha (in case you don’t know the reference, Charlie from Lost was in a fictional band called Drive Shaft (a one-hit wonder with a tune called “You All Everybody”). Well on one of the last eps of Alias (which is by JJ Abrams who’s the creative genius behind Lost), there was a party scene and You All Everybody was playing in the background. PURE GENIUS!!

So on that note, I give this one 2 thumbs up with a wiggle and a twist. Hope y’all have a GREAT weekend and St Patty’s Day (Erin Go Braghless!!). BTW, I’ll be in for the second weekend of JazzFest so I hope to see you all then!!
